Abstract

The article proposes a reconstruction of the early development of women’s boxing in Buenos Aires between 1890 and 1930, examining its representations as part of an emerging mass culture and its unfolding as a labor activity within the entertainment industry, beyond the scope of sports associations. By combining the social history of sport with the history of gender and labor, it analyzes the connections of actresses with boxing as a fundamental element for the legitimacy of female practice and its development as a modern product.
