“The Model Has Blood on Its Face”. Corporate Responsibility in Repressive Processes during the Pinochet Dictatorship in Chile. (1973-1990)
Keywords:
human rights, business, repression, trials, civil-military dictatorshipAbstract
This article analyzes the responsibility of business sectors in the repressive policy of the civil-military dictatorship in Chile. It draws upon secondary literature, to understand the repressive context, and lawsuits on human rights violations in which people linked to the business sector participated. Based on this research, it argues that civilians had active participation in the commission of crimes. This puts into question the beneficial image that business groups managed to build about themselves in relation to their role in the dictatorship and engages with current debates about the inheritance of that regime.
