Textile Circulation and the Genesis of Colonial Craftsmanship in Córdoba (Viceroyalty of Peru) in the Last Quarter of the 16th Century

Drawing on a diverse set of colonial sources regarding the city of Córdoba, Gobernación del Tucumán, in the last quarter of the 16th century (protocol records, judicial processes, dowry letters, post-mortem inventories, etc.), this article explores the circulation of textiles to delve into their connections and convergences with manufacturing from textile mills and the craftsmanship of local workshops. This approach allows us to advance in the history of consumption and understand the consolidation of Hispanic American cities in the context of an economy with pre-capitalist and capitalist features.
